The simple rule

Plan on roughly 100–150g of cake per person as a dessert portion. If
cake is the centrepiece and people are having more than a slice, go higher.

What that looks like in practice

Bento cake (250–350g) — 2 to 4 people. Ideal for office birthdays,
small surprises, or a celebration where a full cake would go to waste.

500g — 4 to 6 people. Good for a small family birthday.

1kg — 8 to 12 people. The most common size for a birthday at home.

1.5kg — 12 to 18 people. Family gatherings.

2kg and above — 20+ people, or when you want leftovers.

Why bento cakes are worth knowing about

A bento cake is a compact, single-tier cake sized for two to four people. It solves a
common problem: ordering a full cake for a small celebration and throwing half of it
away. They are our most popular cake for office birthdays for exactly this reason.
